Remastered Weeping

I discovered a whole set of mastering presets I didn’t know about in GarageBand, so I changed the master mix slightly, adding some punch and pulling the vocals forward.  I think the mix is less muddy.  It’s still messy, but I think this mix sounds better. It’s an R&B setting, of all things.  Then again, I may be fooling myself.

I have so much to learn.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps – Remaster

Weeping Guitars

I decided to play with GarageBand.  I decided I needed to learn how to record an acoustic guitar with a mic.  I decided to sing.

Two of those threee things were good ideas.

So here you go – a couple of rough versions of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.”  The first version is acoustic.  I doubled up the vocals to try to make them less painful.  I’m not sure it worked, but it’s what I did.

The second version is, well… more.  I added effects to the acoustic guitars. I panned the vocals and added reverb, among other things. I played bass (go with it… it’s rough at first, then it settles in). I added another guitar.  I even played lead.  In true indie style, I made up for my complete inability to play a lead by just playing it loud.  You can tell I listen to Neil Young.  You can also tell I cut my musical teeth in the 80s.  I can’t be accused of using too little chorus or phase.

Neither version is particularly good, but I had fun.
