RPM2011 – Snowbound

Posted in announcements on March 9th, 2011 by Letter17 – Comments Off

I’m happy to announce the release of the latest Letter Seventeen album, “Snowbound”.  The album was recorded and produced as part of the 2011 RPM Challenge. It was largely written in December 2010, except for “Head On”, which was written in 1997 (!).Clarke McMurray returns again to add some great backing vocals to “Mr. Flashy Pants” and “Graduation Donkey” (he also played keyboard on the song), as does guitarist extraordinare Andy Samford, playing lead on “HEMANTIS” and “Graduation Donkey”. Ian Tanner played bass on “Mr. Flashy Pants”, Pedro Pereira played lead guitar on “Night Terrors”, and Grant Muller played drums on “Night Terrors”, “Mr. Flashy Pants”, and “Graduation Donkey”. I’m extremely proud of the record and I hope you enjoy it!  The download links are in the toolbar to the right.

Rocketship

Posted in cover, songs on November 27th, 2011 by Letter17 – Comments Off

I started out the day trying to work on a Christmas song, and when that didn’t work out, I recorded a song I’ve had stuck in my head for a long time.  It’s a cover of a cover.  I’ve re-interpreted the Dead Milkmen’s version of the Daniel Johnston song “Rocketship”.  You should go check out the originals.  They’re both on Youtube and are both wonderful in their own way.

I hope you enjoy my version.  I had fun recording it.

edit: and now, the obligatory music video….

Release Your Passenger

Posted in songs on September 19th, 2011 by Letter17 – Comments Off

I’m thrilled to announce the official release of the song “Release Your Passenger”.  The song was written by Brent Kinder of Angie Fights Crime as part of a concept record called “Sunny, sorta…“, based on the book “The Talisman” by Stephen King and Peter Straub.  Brent wrote the album and then had twelve friends provide their own takes on the songs. We were allowed to choose whatever style or arrangement we wanted, but we couldn’t change the chords or the words.

I’m proud of what I did here and I hope you enjoy it.
